Love seeing these beautiful beneficial insects in the veggie patch.
Frogs are welcome at the Central Coast Veggie Patch as they are good indicators of a healthy ecosystem and are great for pest control.
Unfortunately, frog populations are in decline around the world due to habitat loss and their sensitivity to toxins and pollutants in the water, air and soil.
We’ve noticed quite a few frogs in the veggie patch lately which is great for keeping veggie eating insect pests away. They eat thousands of pests in a single season including caterpillars, cutworms, mosquitoes and flies.
We have been spotting beautiful lady beetles all though the garden. This particular one in the photo had come to rest on the flowering dill.
Lady beetles, also known as lady bugs and lady birds, are very beneficial for the garden as they eat crop-damaging aphids, mealybugs and other destructive insect pests. They are very welcome to call our veggie patch home!
